# Zero data retention

> Stop Gradium from retaining the request and response payloads of your speech sessions

With Zero data retention on, Gradium does not retain the request or response
payloads of your organization's speech sessions. It is available on our paid
plans.

## Turn it on

1. Sign in to [Gradium Studio](https://studio.gradium.ai/), open the Profile
dropdown in the top right, and select **Organization**.
2. Under **Data controls** > **Zero data retention**, turn the switch on.

Once it is on, Gradium no longer retains your request or response payloads.

Only organization admins can change this setting. If you are a member, ask an
admin of your organization. See [Organization](/guides/organization) for
roles.

On a free plan, the switch is greyed out and shows
"Enable zero data retention". Hover it to see why, and use **Upgrade plan** at
the top of the **Data controls** section.

## What it covers

Zero data retention covers the request and response payloads of your speech
sessions: the text and audio you send to Text-to-Speech, Speech-to-Text and
Speech-to-Speech, and the audio and transcripts we send back. Once it is on,
none of that is retained.

## What it does not cover

It does **not** cover the inputs you give to our voice creation tools:

* The written prompt you send to [Voice Design](/guides/voices/voice-design).
* The audio sample you upload to create a
[custom voice](/guides/voices/custom-voices), whether it is an Instant Voice
Clone or a Pro Voice Clone.

## Covering voice design prompts and voice samples

Not under the standard policy, but yes on Enterprise plans. If your
organization needs Zero data retention extended to voice design prompts or
voice cloning samples, contact [support@gradium.ai](mailto:support@gradium.ai):
on Enterprise plans we can put a custom privacy policy in place that covers
them.

## Zero data retention and data residency

The two are independent and combine:

* **Zero data retention** governs *whether* request and response payloads are
  retained at all.
* **Data residency** governs *where* your requests are processed. See
  [Data residency](/guides/data-residency).

For ISO 27001 certification details and security resources, see
[Security and compliance](/guides/security).
